Meeting Other Singles

Post date: 2006-05-14

Dear Michelle Valentine,
I would appreciate your advice about a dating dilemma. My technical career has brought me to the Orlando area for what was supposed to have been a 6-month assignment. This "temporary" work assignment is now going on 2 years with no end in sight. I still have a house in another state that I still consider my home. Unfortunately, I have never figured out the when and the how of discussing a bi-coastal relocation within the context of a long-term relationship. Consequently, I have not pursued any relationships beyond the friendship stage in Orlando. Am I putting the cart before the horse and worrying too much about future bridges before they need to be crossed? My personal growth has been in check for the past 2 years, so I would like to know your thoughts on the actions I should take and the mindset that I should use to get back onto a positive personal growth path.
Dating Dilemma, S.W. Orlando

Dear Dating Dilemma,
Although we met and did not have much time to chat at my last seminar at Borders Books to discuss in detail this letter you had sent me, I will just re-cap what we had touched on based on (for your sake as well as someone out in the same situation). First of all, kudos to you for taking the initiative of attending one of my seminars on "How to find love. . ." I believe you have reached the point where you feel it is a true shame to have let all this time pass without letting the possibility of love enter your life - especially within such the lengthy time as 2 years! You seemed to appear as a stable and pleasant young man with a wonderful career, and I'm glad you turned in your Personals ad after my seminar. If you find someone who truly loves you, they will work around your situation, and who knows... she may be willing to move back "home" with you. Then again, Orlando is such a wonderful place to live, that maybe you will be the one to decide to stay here and make Orlando your new home! Keep in touch!

Dear Readers,
We had such a great time at Howl at the Moon last week with SHE 100.3 FM, you can join me again for more fun with SHE 100.3 FM from 5 to 7 pm, on Friday, Jan. 29, at Have a Nice Day Cafe on Orange Avenue in downtown Orlando, for a "free movie pass giveaway" (to the first 50 people to show up at my table there) for the screening of "Rushmore" starring Bill Murray. Join us for lots of other giveaways, door prizes, and a ton of fun! FYI: for those of you who are/were lucky to get a free pass to the movie screening of "Rushmore", be sure to call the phone number on your ticket to RSVP to guarantee a seat for yourself and your guest. Also be sure to come to the theatre at least a half hour before the movie starts to get a good seat to catch some giveaways I will be throwing into the audience!
Amore till next week
