Dealing with Personal Ads

Post date: 2006-06-23

Dear Michelle Valentine,
I place Personals ads in the paper, and no girl responds to my ad because they think I'm a woman. My voice is kind of high-pitched. I'm a very attractive guy, but I'm very shy and that may be why I place Personals ads. Anyway, I want to meet a female who will accept me for who I am. Any advice that you can give me will really be appreciated! Thank you!

Danny, Apopka

Dear Danny,
The ads you have previously placed sounded just fine, so of course I was concerned as well why you were not getting responses. Upon looking at my weekly report, you did indeed get calls (from 9 women!), but they did not leave a message. We can then assume that it was due to something you said in your greeting, or in your case... how you say it. So, I would suggest that you mention your "vocal difference" within your ad, to keep the women interested in you (with no surprises). You can always register for some private speech therapy or voice lessons to help you. However, chances are you will meet someone who likes you the way you are and become and instant drop out. Ladies out there, here is one of his previous ads. Let me know what you think!

GET IT TOGETHER Very attractive (with unusual voice) SWM, 26, 5'8", brown hair, hazel eyes. Enjoy Atlanta Braves, South Park, Jaguar football. Seeking cute, feminine SWF, 18-30, who wants to be a friend. Let's see what develops!
