Telling Someone You Care About Them
Post date: 2006-06-27
Dear Michelle Valentine,
I'm a 28 year old female and have been dating this wonderful guy for a few months. He is fun, full of energy, exciting, caring, warm, and very affectionate towards me. I have totally fallen for him, and I am trying to be patient with telling him how I feel. Why? Because he's really, really afraid of being hurt again, after his ex-girlfriend (who he recently lived with) was cheating on him. I don't know what to do. Please advise.
Priscilla, Orlando
Dear Priscilla,
It is always such a shame when someone you are interested has some type of relationship fear. And especially when they are truly interested in you, but they cannot get over something from a previous relationship. Everyone needs time to cope with a loss (especially when it involves infidelity), and you seem to have met him quite soon after his hurt. I suggest you keep enjoying your time with him, and don't give him any pressure to reciprocate if he's "totally fallen" for you, too. Just enjoy what you have: a great guy who is communicative enough to have told you of his feelings. Take things very slowly, and let me know what happens in a month or two.
Amore till next week
